What does Geomancy mean

Geomancy is an ancient art of harmonizing sites, discovering power-centres, and creating powerful places. The word, geomancy or geomantics, comes from the Greek γέωμάντάίά (geomantaía) meaning „divination of the earth“ or the perception of energy currents.

Geomancers deal with electromagnetic energy lines which are invisible though perceivable energies. Each and every place contains, or is determined by, a specific energy or quality.

Unconscious acts of people, false construction modes, as well as greed and ignorance may lead to disharmonies in nature and on sites, in houses, flats, with companies, businesses, villages and village centres, towns and town centres.

METHODS

The geomantic methods were imparted orally to me by my teacher during a 6-year apprenticeship. When setting geomantic patterns I use, among others, water, plants, light, spirals, rocks, precious stones and metal (for instance, iron and copper). Geomancy is about the interplay of sound, pattern, form and shape, proportion, atmosphere as well as colours and materials. Blocked-up energies can be made flowing again. Similar to acupuncture of humans, the acupuncture of the earth may contribute to harmonizing a place when the geomancer sets or changes a pattern or even corrects and harmonizes a destroyed pattern.

GEOMANCY – AN ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE

Geomancy of some sort was known in most cultures as early as in the Neolithic Ages. The sages of the celts, the druids, brought this knowledge about harmony and beauty to our area. They knew that there is a connection between earth radiation and cosmic radiation. This means that there is a connection between astrology and geomancy. The ambient landscape played an important role in the building of villages, towns, cathedrals, and castles. Planets and astrological signs correspond to the landscape, to rocks, metals and colours. Geomancers also know about the importance of water. Water is life. The human system as well as the surface of the earth are made up of almost 80 % water. Water is vital and therefore crucially important for the „system“ and energy of a location.

Water brings energy; it also purifies and distributes energy. In former times, town and village wells were built not just for the supply of water but were consciously placed in specific spots. Geomancy is nothing to do with power. Energy is neutral. It depends how it is being used.

The geomancer also needs to know about breath and time; he or she also works with the senses which include more than the five bodily senses. The senses are his friends.

WHY WESTERN GEOMANCY INSTEAD OF FENG SHUI?

We live in a Western culture and are therefore deeply rooted in it. However, a geomancer will always try to bring the energies of a site in line and in HARMONY with the different worlds, the people and with nature.

Feng Shui is the geomancy of the East. Geomancy is the earth divination of the West. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art going back thousands of years stemming from the shamans of ancient China. It is the art and science of living in harmony with the environment. In popular terms Feng Shui means a world of fans, aquariums, water falls, wind harps etc.

A true Feng Shui-master has undergone many years of apprenticeship and knows about the relationship between “the patterns of wind and water” and Chinese astrology.

Geomancy is a Sacred Science and a branch of life going back to the Neolithic Age. Thus the druids, the wise elders of the Celts were the shamans of Western culture. Geomancy is connected with Western astrology. The training of a geomancer also involves many years with the knowledge being transmitted orally from master to student. This is preceded by inner work, by self-recognition.

I believe that „there is no room for two“ which means that there is only ONE Absolute Existence. Therefore I don`t mix up the different cultures in my work as geomancer.

„We all need to remember that every action we take has an effect on the whole, whether that action is taken in a moment of fear, or in the All-Embracing Love of our Creator. Geomancy is a Sacred Art, and therefore it is Love that is the prime cause of our work.“
